India’s Williams, Mishra, Kochi Secure Historic Win Over Hong Kong
India secured a 2-1 victory over Hong Kong in their final 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifying match. Ryan Williams scored on his India debut. Akash Mishra added a second after the break.
Early breakthrough and second-half seal
The opener arrived in the fourth minute. Manvir Singh burst down the right and delivered a low cross. Williams finished neatly with the outside of his right boot.
Four minutes after the interval, Mishra swept in a loose ball following chaos from a Rahul Bheke long throw. It was the fullback’s first goal for the national team.
Late response and tense finish
Hong Kong reduced the deficit late through Everton Camargo. A defensive slip allowed a straight through ball and Camargo prodded past Gurpreet Singh Sandhu.
Gurpreet had little else to do during the game. Ashique Kuruniyan came on and missed a couple of chances as India defended nervily to the final whistle.
Team shape and performances
The forward line of Williams, Manvir, Lallianzuala Chhangte and Liston Colaco caused constant problems. Their interchanging movement created several openings.
A makeshift midfield of Anwar Ali and Apuia faced pressure at times. Apuia, however, dominated possession and dictated play for long periods.
Context and reaction
The national side returned to Kochi after a gap of ten years and two days. A healthy local crowd turned out to support the team.
India’s Williams reflected on a long wait to complete his eligibility and on the pride of representing the country. The result offered rare positivity after a difficult qualifying campaign.
This win will boost morale as India prepares for the next World Cup and Asian Cup qualification cycles. For full match highlights and detailed coverage visit Filmogaz.com.
