Collision sequence

Authorities say officers observed a silver Infiniti sedan driving erratically near Cypress Street and Harbor Boulevard around 12:45 a.m. The driver turned off the vehicle’s lights and sped away when officers attempted to close in.

Police did not formally initiate a pursuit. Moments after officers lost sight of the Infiniti, it ran a red light and struck three other vehicles. In total, four cars were involved in the crash.

A 70-year-old man, identified as Alberto Viveros, was killed. He was driving a red Toyota Camry and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Other occupants
