Henderson Police Launch Statewide Campaign Against Distracted Driving
Henderson Police have launched a statewide campaign targeting distracted driving. The effort runs April 1 through April 19.
This marks the seventh Joining Forces traffic enforcement initiative. Multiple law enforcement agencies will coordinate patrols and citations.
Campaign scope and timeline
The Joining Forces program operates across Nevada. It focuses on reducing unsafe behaviors behind the wheel.
Enforcement activities will take place from April 1 to April 19. Officers will focus on identifying and stopping distracted drivers.
Law and enforcement
Nevada law prohibits using a cell phone or other electronic device while a vehicle is in operation. The rule applies even when a vehicle is stopped at a red light.
Drivers may use a hands-free headset or Bluetooth for calls. However, attention must remain on driving to avoid diversion.
Funding for enhanced enforcement
The Henderson Police Department received $174,500 in grant funding. The money came through the Nevada Department of Public Safety for the 2026 Joining Forces program.
Risks and safety guidance
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration identifies three distraction types. They are visual, manual, and cognitive distractions.
Texting or using a phone while driving creates all three distractions at once. That combination greatly raises the chance of serious or fatal crashes.
- Plan trips and set navigation before starting the vehicle.
- Enable automatic responses on devices while driving.
- Use hands-free technology only if it does not reduce focus on the road.
Agencies hope the statewide campaign will deter risky behaviors. Officers will increase enforcement to improve roadway safety.
