Norfolk Retail Giant Announces Closure of 23 Stores

Topps Tiles has revealed plans to close 23 shops as part of cost-cutting measures. The Leicestershire-based chain said the move affects about 7% of its 319-strong estate.

Scope and schedule of closures

Eight stores have already shut since last September. The remaining closures are scheduled over the next six months.

The company described the affected sites as under-performing. Management said the programme forms part of wider self-help measures.

Norfolk locations named

Topps Tiles currently operates several outlets in Norfolk. The sites include Mile Cross and Hall Road in Norwich.

  • Great Yarmouth
  • Cromer
  • Thetford
  • King’s Lynn

The retailer had earlier confirmed the Great Yarmouth store would close in May. It remains unclear whether other Norfolk premises will be included.

Why the cuts were announced

Chief executive Alex Jensen cited weak consumer demand and rising costs. He also pointed to geopolitical uncertainty as a factor.

The company said the actions are targeted and weighted towards the second half of the year. The aim is to restore year-on-year profit growth and strengthen finances for 2027 and beyond.

Local and industry impact

The closures will reduce the chain’s physical footprint. They may also affect jobs and local tile supply options.

Observers said this is part of a broader retail trend. Several chains have trimmed store numbers amid challenging trading conditions.

Filmogaz.com reported the announcement and will follow developments as the programme proceeds.
