Gangland Leader Steven Lyons Faces Deportation to Spain After Bali Arrest
A 45-year-old Scottish man was arrested in Bali after arriving from Singapore. Immigration officers detained him at Ngurah Rai International Airport, officials said.
Interpol Indonesia chief Untung Widiyatmoko confirmed the arrest. Authorities say the suspect is wanted in the UK and Spain for organised crime offences.
Custody and planned transfer
Indonesian authorities said the man will face deportation to Spain. They expect him to be extradited on Wednesday.
A photo showed him in an orange detainee uniform in Denpasar. Bali police escorted him under tight security.
Allegations and international cooperation
Police describe him as a gangland leader accused of narcotics trafficking and money laundering. Investigators link him to organised crime networks across several countries.
- Alleged offences include drug trafficking and money laundering.
- He is also wanted over a murder case in Spain in 2024.
- Officials say the group used shell companies for laundering in Europe and the Middle East.
Authorities named locations tied to the probe. These include Spain, Scotland, England, Dubai, Qatar, Bahrain and Turkey.
Scottish and Spanish police carried out raids last week. Europol and several foreign partners aided the operations.
Official statements and local sources
Bali police chief Daniel Adityajaya said the arrest resulted from a joint investigation. He credited cooperation with Spanish and Scottish law enforcement.
Bugie Kurniawan of Bali’s immigration office said the detained man arrived with two companions. Spain’s Interpol identified them as linked to the same cartel, but they face no arrest warrants yet.
Background and violence linked to the suspect
Local reporting says the suspect survived a 2006 shooting in Glasgow that killed a relative. He later lived in Spain before moving to Dubai.
In May last year, his brother and another man were killed in a suspected gangland shooting at a beachfront bar in Fuengirola, southern Spain. Authorities continue to examine those links.
