Tiger Woods Displayed Impairment Signs, Checked Phone Before Crash, Police Report
Tiger Woods was arrested Friday after his SUV overturned on Jupiter Island, Florida. Authorities charged him with driving under the influence following the crash.
What happened at the scene
The incident occurred when a pickup truck began turning into a driveway. The truck driver reported seeing Woods’ Land Rover approach at high speed.
The Land Rover clipped the back of the truck’s trailer, then rolled onto its side. Video from the scene showed the SUV lying on its side.
Statements and immediate observations
Woods told a deputy he had looked down at his cell phone before the collision. The phrase Checked Phone Before Crash appears in the report as part of his statement.
Deputies said Woods climbed out through a window and was arrested at the scene. Another deputy was asked to carry out a DUI investigation.
Signs noted by officers
The Police Report listed several physical indicators observed by deputies. It stated Tiger Woods Displayed Impairment Signs such as bloodshot eyes and very dilated pupils.
Officers described his movements as slow and lethargic. They also said he was sweating heavily despite sitting in an air-conditioned car.
Sobriety tests and evidence collected
Woods struggled with field sobriety exercises, officials said. Deputies recorded limping and stumbling to the right during one test.
Two white pills were found in his left pocket. The pills were later identified as hydrocodone, an opioid pain medication.
He submitted to a breath test at the county jail. He refused a urine test, according to authorities.
Damage, other driver and follow-up
The truck belonged to 43-year-old Jeromy Bullard. His father, Ricky Bullard, said his son was not seriously injured.
Investigators estimated about $5,000 in damage to the trailer’s rear left fender and wheel. Bullard owns a local home cleaning company, according to public profiles.
Past incidents involving Woods
Woods previously faced a DUI arrest in Florida in 2017. After that crash, he sought treatment at a clinic for prescription medication.
In 2021 he suffered serious injuries in a separate single-vehicle crash in California. Authorities then said speed, not impairment, appeared to be a factor.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office released the incident report on Tuesday. The document forms the basis for ongoing inquiries into the crash and arrest.
