Carey Mulligan on New Bond: ‘Big Shoes to Fill’ as She Receives CBE

Carey Mulligan, 40, was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire at Windsor Castle. The honour was presented by the King for services to drama.

She attended the ceremony with her husband, musician Marcus Mumford. Mulligan spoke to the Press Association after the investiture.

Reaction to the award

Mulligan called the recognition “extraordinary” and said she felt very lucky. She noted her gratitude for being able to work in a profession she loves.

Her career includes a Bafta win in 2010 for best actress for An Education. That accolade remains one of her notable achievements.

On the future of James Bond

Asked about the next actor to play 007, Mulligan warned the role will be a challenge. She said the successor must be an exceptional performer.

She praised Daniel Craig as an extraordinary actor. Mulligan added he was not the obvious choice, which spoke to Craig’s range.

Upcoming projects

Mulligan is set to appear later this year in Netflix’s adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia. The cast includes Daniel Craig and Meryl Streep.

She described working on the C.S. Lewis adaptation as a dream job. The project has been a high-profile return to big-scale fiction for her.
