Las Vegas Faces High Winds and Showers to End March
Las Vegas will face high winds as showers move in to close out March. The National Weather Service warns of gusty winds and a chance of light rain in Southern Nevada.
Timing and rain expectations
Ashley Nickerson of the NWS said there is a 40 percent chance of light showers today. Most precipitation is expected after 10 p.m. and could continue until about 4 a.m.
Officials cautioned that many areas may receive only brief, light showers. Some locations might see only small puddles.
Wind advisory and impacts
The NWS has issued a wind advisory from 11 a.m. through 2 a.m. Wednesday. Southwest winds are forecast at 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph.
Forecasters warned that gusty winds could blow around unsecured items. Tree limbs may fall and isolated power outages are possible.
Dust concerns
Clark County’s Division of Air Quality posted a dust advisory for Tuesday. The advisory runs from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The combination of strong winds and dry ground increases the risk of blowing dust. Drivers should take extra care in reduced-visibility conditions.
Storm arrival and temperatures
A storm system approaching from the north will push Tuesday’s high to about 77 degrees. That aligns with the valley’s typical late-March highs in the mid-70s.
Temperatures are expected to remain in the upper 70s through the week. Friday’s forecast high of 74 would be the coolest since March 8, when the high was 73.
Recent precipitation history
Southern Nevada has seen no measurable rain this month following a historic heat dome. The last rain event with measurable totals was Feb. 16, Presidents Day.
Ashley Nickerson noted the last rainless March occurred in 2014. Las Vegas recorded 0.02 inches in 2025 and 0.74 inches in 2024. The typical March average is 0.42 inches.
