Nintendo Transforms Mario Kart with Item Rebalancing and Bob-omb Blast Mode
Nintendo released Mario Kart World version 1.6.0 on 30 March 2026 for the Nintendo Switch 2. The update adds a returning battle option and several item and recovery adjustments. Players can download the patch now.
New battle mode
Bob-omb Blast Mode returns from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Players can carry up to ten Bob-ombs at once. Throw distance varies with how long the L Button is held.
Item and balance changes
Nintendo Transforms Mario Kart with Item Rebalancing in this patch. The update alters Bullet Bill, boomerang, and item drop rates.
- Bullet Bill now has increased lateral movement and higher speed on parts of Bowser’s Castle, Starview Peak, and Rainbow Road.
- It is easier to follow a shortcut immediately after using Bullet Bill.
- The boomerang’s range was reduced.
- The number of consecutive boomerang throws has been lowered.
- Nintendo adjusted the probability of items from item boxes, but gave no detailed breakdown.
Recovery and hit detection
Invincibility time after spinning or crashing now varies by character and vehicle weight. Heavier setups gain longer invincibility. Lighter characters receive shorter invincibility.
Players will no longer be crushed by objects like Thwomps while spinning or crashing. However, lightning and Spiny Shells can hit immediately after being crushed.
Battle and UI tweaks
When playing Single Player or 1p during Online Play and Wireless Play, up to two warnings will appear for incoming Red Shells or Spiny Shells. The roulette time to determine courses in Online Play and Wireless Play has been shortened.
