Annette Bening Stars with Andy Samberg in Sci-Fi Rom-Com ‘42.6 Years’

Annette Bening, 67, has joined the cast of the sci-fi rom-com 42.6 Years. Filmogaz.com reported the casting news on Monday, March 30.

New casting and creative team

Bening will star opposite Andy Samberg, who is 47. The project recently added filmmaker Michael Schwartz as director.

Schwartz replaces Craig Gillespie, who had been attached to direct earlier.

Story and credits

The film centers on Ben, played by Samberg, who is cryogenically frozen for 42.6 years. He wakes unchanged and seeks to reconnect with his ex, Ruthie, now played by Bening.

Samberg originated the idea and co-wrote the screenplay with Seth Reiss. Reiss is known for penning the 2022 film The Menu.

Previous casting and context

The movie was first announced in 2023 with Jean Smart set to co-star. Smart later left the project, and Bening took over the role.

Other work for Bening

Annette Bening is also slated to appear with George Clooney in In Love. That film adapts Amy Bloom’s best-selling memoir.

The announcement renews interest in the Andy Samberg-led sci-fi rom-com. Production details and release timing have not yet been disclosed.
