Each poppy represented a British or Colonial military fatality. Kirkwood said the installation left a deep impression, and she bought one of the ceramic poppies.

Personal reasons for leaving

Kirkwood has framed the move as a personal decision. She said she wants to spend more time with her husband, Steve Randall.

The pair married in 2023. She described their schedules as often crossing like ships in the night and expressed plans to travel.
