Lineup adjustments and context
The White Sox revamped their lineup in Miami, and Davis Martin makes his season debut on the mound. Venable kept the same top of the order used Sunday, which produced a season-high seven runs in Milwaukee.
Miguel Vargas was moved to the leadoff spot and will start at first base. Chase Meidroth takes a planned day off after going hitless Sunday.
Munetaka Murakami will bat second and serve as the designated hitter. This marks his first appearance as a DH in the major leagues.
Colson Montgomery shifts to third base for the second time this year. He has been productive recently, including a grand slam and three hits across the last two games.
Luisangel Acuña will appear in the infield for the second time in four games. He joined the roster this winter as an outfielder.
Sam Antonacci and William Bergolla Jr. remain in the minors. UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky is considered a likely summer draft addition.
Notes on role players
Tristan Peters will start his third straight game in center field and bat sixth. He has reached base in each of his last two contests but has not yet recorded a run or RBI.

Pitching matchup
Right-hander Davis Martin will start for the White Sox. He was one of Chicago’s stronger spring performers.
Martin appeared in five spring games. He posted a 3.24 ERA across 16.2 innings with 13 strikeouts.
Martin works with a fastball, change-up and slider. He does not rely on high strikeout totals.
Martin produced a solid groundball rate in 2025. He could hold an advantage against Miami’s young lineup.
The Marlins will counter with Chris Paddack. This outing is his first start for Miami after finishing 2025 in Detroit.
Paddack posted a 5.35 ERA last season over 33 games. His strikeout rate was roughly 16.7 percent.
Paddack locates well and issues few walks. He has had mixed results limiting opponent damage.
