Marvel & Mega Man Collections Launch on Xbox with Positive Reviews
Xbox Store added two retro compilations today: Marvel MaXimum Collection and Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection. Both packages are available now and are drawing generally positive reactions.
Critical reception so far
The Marvel MaXimum Collection does not yet have a Metacritic average. Early scores cluster around a 7/10 mark. Creative Bloq awarded 3.5/5 and praised its strong dose of 1990s nostalgia and arcade classics. That outlet noted weaker spots in the Spider-Man and Venom entries.
The Mirror gave the collection 3/5. It highlighted X-Men: The Arcade Game as the standout inclusion. The review also pointed to the value of modern accessibility options across the package.
Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection reviews
The Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection has Metacritic scores for PC and PS5. The PC rating sits at 76 and PS5 at 73. Xbox does not yet have enough reviews for a Metacritic score.
Push Square rated the set 7/10 and said parts feel dated, but fans of Battle Network will find it worthwhile. GameSpew also gave a 7/10 and praised the extras and quality-of-life enhancements. That review suggested newcomers might find the series aging.
Content and appeal
Both collections focus on retro offerings and convenience features. Marvel MaXimum leans on arcade hits and rarer ports. Mega Man bundles several action-RPG entries and adds bonus material and updates.
Reviewers commonly noted nostalgia as a selling point. Accessibility and enhancements help modern players enjoy older titles.
