Police Question Man in Mohamed Al Fayed Sex Abuse Probe
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police have questioned a man in his 60s under caution this month. The action forms part of the police sex abuse probe into Mohamed al Fayed following dozens of allegations.
Recent interviews and suspects
The man was interviewed after three women were also questioned under caution. The women are in their 40s, 50s and 60s and were interviewed between 25 February and 5 March.
All four individuals have been questioned on suspicion of aiding and abetting rape and sexual assault. They are also suspected of assisting the commission of sexual offences and of human trafficking for sexual exploitation.
Scope of the investigation
The inquiry has so far attracted reports from 154 people. Allegations include sexual assault, rape, sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
Officers say they have spent the past 18 months taking detailed accounts from victims and witnesses. Investigators are building a comprehensive picture of alleged offending linked to Mohamed al Fayed.
Alleged timeframe and scale
The Metropolitan Police previously said the alleged misconduct could span decades. The claims cover years from 1977 to 2014 and involve more than 400 alleged sexual offences.
Investigative stance and appeal
Scotland Yard described the inquiry as one of its largest and most complex investigations. No arrests have been made to date and the investigation remains active.
Met commander Angela Craggs urged anyone with information to come forward. She noted that while Mohamed al Fayed died in August 2023, the force is determined to identify and pursue others who may have enabled offending.
