Guatemala National Team: Fedefut Unveils Potential June FIFA Date Opponents
Fedefut said it is lining up June FIFA date opponents for the Guatemala National Team. President Gerardo Paiz made the announcement during the Domo Gerardo Paiz inauguration. The comments came on Wednesday, March 25.
Three friendly matches in prospect
Paiz confirmed talks are underway to schedule three friendlies in the June international window. The federation is negotiating with Ecuador, Australia and Morocco.
He described the contacts as advanced and close to finalization. Official confirmations may arrive soon.
Why those teams?
Ecuador brings extensive World Cup experience and strong South American competition. That would be a high-level test for the bicolor.
Morocco reached the semifinals at the 2022 World Cup. They are set to appear at the 2026 tournament.
Australia has secured a 2026 World Cup berth. Many of their players have careers in European leagues.
Immediate focus: friendly against Algeria
The team’s short-term priority remains the match versus Algeria. Guatemala will play on Friday, March 27.
The fixture is set for the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa, Italy. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Guatemala time.
What this means for the program
Matches against Ecuador, Australia and Morocco would raise the level of competition. They would help measure progress toward the 2030 World Cup project.
Paiz emphasized the value of tough opponents for team development. The federation sees the friendlies as key evaluation tools.
- Ecuador — seasoned World Cup participant and South American contender.
- Morocco — 2022 World Cup semifinalist and 2026 qualified team.
- Australia — 2026 qualified, with players active in Europe.
