Savannah Guthrie Returns to ‘Today’ Following Mother’s Disappearance

Savannah Guthrie plans to resume her role on Today on Monday, April 6. The coanchor made the decision after nearly eight weeks away following her mother’s disappearance.

Return to the program

Guthrie spoke about the choice in an interview with Hoda Kotb. That segment aired Friday, March 27.

She described missing her colleagues and the show’s atmosphere. Guthrie said she wanted to be with the “Today” team during a difficult time.

Details of the disappearance

Her mother, Nancy Guthrie, is 84 years old. Family members last saw her on Saturday, Jan. 31, and reported her missing the next morning.

Friends and neighbors had expected Nancy to join a viewing of an online church service. When she failed to appear at a friend’s home, they contacted her nearby daughter, Annie, a source told NBC News.

Investigation status

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department says they believe Nancy was taken from her home against her will. Law enforcement calls the case an active investigation.

Public updates have become less frequent in recent weeks. Authorities continue to ask anyone with information to come forward.

Family appeal and public tips

On March 22, Guthrie’s family issued a statement through KVOA-News 4 Tucson. They asked for renewed attention to the matter.

The family urged people to review camera footage, journals, texts, observations, and conversations that might now seem important. They said local residents and the broader Southern Arizona community may hold key information.
