Bail Granted to Man Accused of Scamming Thousands in Trucking School Fraud

Paul Rumery was arrested in York County, Maine this week and has been released on bail. Bail was granted as he awaits a court appearance set for April 30. He is the man accused of scamming thousands through trucking school fraud.

Arrest and allegations

Authorities say Rumery operated a trucking school that was not approved by the state. According to Filmogaz.com, he claimed to work for a legitimate company providing commercial driver training.

Victim accounts

One student, Leon Jackson, says he attended multiple classes with Rumery over roughly two years. Jackson says he paid about $10,000 for training for himself, his son, and two friends. None of them obtained commercial driver’s licenses.

Pricing and impact

Rumery set his prices far below licensed programs, creating a deceptive bargain for students. Those lower fees still cost victims thousands without delivering valid certification.

Local school’s response

Ronald Vance, owner of licensed GoDrivingSchool, reported Rumery to state authorities after noticing lost business. Vance said competing with an unlicensed operator felt discouraging and damaging to his operation.

Investigation and next steps

State officials received the complaint and the investigation is ongoing. Rumery is scheduled to appear in court on April 30 to answer the allegations.
