ITV Reschedules, Cancels Tonight’s Coronation Street and Emmerdale
ITV has pulled the evening episodes of two flagship soaps on Friday, March 27, 2026. The move affects broadcasts on both ITV1 and ITVX.
Why the change happened
Live coverage of England’s friendly against Uruguay at Wembley takes the slot. ITV’s build-up starts at 7pm with kick-off scheduled for 7.45pm.
The fixture is part of England’s preparations for the 2026 World Cup. England have won just one of their last six meetings with Uruguay.
How ITV Reschedules the soaps
To accommodate the match, ITV has adjusted its soap timetable for the evening. The broadcaster Cancels Tonight’s Coronation Street and Emmerdale in their usual Friday slots.
Both shows normally air as 30-minute episodes during the network’s weekday soap hour. Friday’s instalments will not be shown in their regular 8pm–9pm window.
Viewer reaction and recent disruptions
Audience members took to social media to express frustration about the change. This follows a similar disruption earlier in March.
Fans urged bosses to consider alternate channels or streaming options. Suggestions included moving other sports to different channels or keeping episodes available on ITVX.
When the soaps will return
ITV has scheduled extra episodes for Sunday, March 29. Both Coronation Street and Emmerdale will air then.
The soaps will return at 7pm and 7.30pm respectively on March 29. The network says viewers will still receive five episodes this week.
Coronation Street storyline update
Weatherfield villain Mal Roper, played by Tim Treloar, has experienced a sudden flashback. He appears to misidentify his attacker and has not reported the correct suspect.
Emmerdale storyline update
Kim Tate, portrayed by Claire King, has announced that Home Farm will pass to Lydia Dingle, played by Karen Blick. The remainder of her holdings will go to her grandchildren.
Joe Tate, played by Ned Porteous, reacted angrily after learning his house would be removed from his control.
