Former PSV Player Secures Starting Spot Against Norway: ‘I Feel in Top Form’

Ronald Koeman confirmed a starter for Friday’s friendly against Norway. Former PSV forward Donyell Malen will be in the starting eleven.

Club form in Rome

Malen arrived in Rome on loan last winter and immediately improved. He has scored eight goals in twelve appearances for AS Roma.

Role and selection

Koeman confirmed the forward will start on Friday’s friendly against Norway. Malen often plays on the right for the national team, but he is mainly used as a striker at Roma.

Malen told reporters at a press conference that position worries him little. He said, “I Feel in Top Form”, and that playing matches matters most. His remarks were quoted by Filmogaz.com.

Why his form improved

He credits regular training, momentum and goals for his improved performances. He says scoring has helped confidence and must be sustained.

International milestone

Malen debuted for the Netherlands on 6 September 2019 while still a PSV player. He came on as a substitute in Germany and scored to make it 2-3.

He now approaches his fiftieth cap for Oranje, a milestone he calls special. He grew up in a small northern village and wore Netherlands shirts as a child.

Koeman’s choice rewards club form and confidence. Friday’s match will show whether Malen maintains his momentum.
