Sony and Honda Review Sony Honda Mobility’s Business Direction in Joint Statement

Background of the venture

Sony Honda Mobility was established in September 2022. The joint venture combined Sony’s and Honda’s technologies and development capabilities.

Its mission was to develop and sell high value-added mobility products. It also aimed to provide mobility-related services.

Strategic shift and model cancellations

Honda announced a reassessment of its automobile electrification strategy on March 12, 2026. That decision altered the assumptions underlying SHM’s operations.

As a result, SHM will discontinue development and launch of the AFEELA 1. The company also stopped work on its planned second model.

Next steps for the joint venture

In a joint statement, Sony and Honda said they will review Sony Honda Mobility’s business direction. Sony, Honda and SHM will continue discussions on the venture’s future.
