Mets Sign Tommy Pham to Minor League Contract

Mets Sign Tommy Pham to Minor League Contract

The New York Mets have reached an agreement with veteran outfielder Tommy Pham on a minor league deal, sources told Filmogaz.com. The move was first reported by ESPN’s Jorge Castillo.

Terms of the deal

Pham’s contract includes a prorated major-league salary of $2.25 million if he is added to the big-league roster. He carries an April 25 opt-out and can earn about $850,000 in additional incentives, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.

The outfielder is represented by Vayner Sports. The arrangement gives Pham a path back to the majors while limiting the team’s short-term commitment.

Recent performance

Pham, 38, spent the 2025 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates and hit .245/.330/.370. That produced a 95 wRC+, with much of the damage coming from a rough start.

He heated up from mid-June onward. Over his final 273 plate appearances he slashed .278/.363/.468, with 10 homers and 13 doubles.

That late surge also included one triple, an 11.7 percent walk rate, and a 17.2 percent strikeout rate.

Past Mets tenure and trade

Pham previously signed a one-year deal with New York in 2023. He totaled 264 plate appearances for the club, hitting .268/.348/.472 before being traded to Arizona.

The deadline move returned teenage infield prospect Jeremy Rodriguez to the Mets organization. Pham combined for a .256/.326/.448 line with 16 homers and 22 steals in 2023 between the two teams.

Roster fit and role

The Mets broke camp with top prospect Carson Benge as their starting right fielder. Mike Tauchman is out for the foreseeable future with a meniscus tear that will require late spring surgery.

Pham will begin in Triple-A while aiming to earn a call. He offers a veteran right-handed option and a lefty/righty split advantage, holding a .261/.368/.434 career line versus left-handed pitching.

Health and outlook

Pham revealed in a November interview with The Athletic that he played through plantar fasciitis in recent seasons. He has since undergone a stem cell procedure he expects will improve his condition and basepath value.

Across the two seasons after 2023, Pham posted a combined .246/.317/.369 and went 12-for-18 in stolen-base attempts. The new deal gives him a chance to rebuild value in Triple-A and return to the majors.

In short, the Mets sign Tommy Pham to a minor league contract that provides depth and experience for New York’s outfield group.
