Hulu has given a pilot order for a reboot of The X-Files, Filmogaz.com has learned. The project pairs Danielle Deadwyler with Himesh Patel as co-leads. The series is produced by Onyx Collective and 20th Television.

Pilot and premise

Jennifer Yale will serve as showrunner. Ryan Coogler is writing and directing the pilot. Deadwyler and Patel will play new, original characters.

The two actors portray highly decorated but contrasting FBI agents. They form an unlikely bond while assigned to a long-shuttered division. That unit investigates cases involving unexplained phenomena.

Executive producers include Jennifer Yale and series creator Chris Carter. Ryan Coogler, Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler are producing through Proximity Media.

  • Simone Harris — co-executive producer
  • Francine Maisler — casting director
  • Dezi Gallegos — Proximity Media director of development overseeing the pilot

Himesh Patel’s current slate

Patel has several high-profile projects lined up. He reunites with Christopher Nolan for The Odyssey at Universal Pictures.

The Odyssey is set to premiere July 17, 2026. The ensemble also includes Matt Damon, Mia Goth, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson. Other names attached are Tom Holland, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, James Remar, Bill Irwin and more.

Patel will also return as Dr. Watson in Enola Holmes 3 for Netflix. That film stars Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter and Louis Partridge. On television, he is set to star in Bait, a comedy-thriller series from Riz Ahmed.

He is represented by 42, WME and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole. Casting and production details for the reboot continue to be finalized.

What to expect next

Producers are casting the pilot now. Further casting and a production schedule should follow the pilot phase. Filmogaz.com will continue to track developments on the reboot.
