Ramón Rodríguez Discusses ‘Will Trent’ Stunt Injury and Invites Bad Bunny to Guest Star
Ramón Rodríguez returned to Puerto Rico to direct Season 4, Episode 11 of Will Trent. The episode sends the GBI agent into the island’s rainforest. Rodríguez also performed a risky cliff dive stunt and suffered a facial injury on set.
Filming in Puerto Rico
Production recreated terrain that resembled El Yunque. Persistent rain and mud made logistics difficult. Crews adapted quickly and kept the shoot moving.
Stunts required wire rigging and precise coordination. A techno crane was moved across sand with plywood. Local technicians handled complex maneuvers with skill.
The stunt and personal stakes
Rodríguez dove to save a character from a ravine during the episode. He later described smashing his face during the stunt. He shared the moment with his family after filming.
Directing at home had emotional weight for him. He heard Spanish on set and played salsa between takes. His mother watched him perform and offered candid feedback.
Altura Productions and future plans
Rodríguez runs Altura Productions. The company has a multi-year first-look deal with 20th Television. He added an executive to help run the firm.
He is developing a personal feature about a father and son. The story spans New York and Puerto Rico and will include music. Some financing is in place, and he aims to direct during the summer hiatus.
Guest stars and music
The season features music from contemporary Latin artists. A Bad Bunny song is included in the current season. The team is pursuing Bad Bunny as a potential guest star and collaborator on the feature.
Previous Latino guest stars include Gina Rodriguez, Yul Vázquez and John Ortiz. Rodríguez said he hopes to expand those creative partnerships.
Series momentum and what’s next
Will Trent earned its first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming. The series has grown its audience year over year.
Rodríguez teased a bold creative turn later this season. He promised emotional highs and lows leading to a loaded season finale. The show airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and streams the next day on Hulu.
