Henderson said the infection was deep-seated and had returned despite previous recovery. A fractured pelvis had been healing, but the infection spread too far.
The gelding was put to sleep at the veterinary hospital on Tuesday morning. The trainer released the update on X that afternoon.

Sir Gino retired unbeaten after seven career starts. He won three Grade 1 hurdle races during that run.
