“Vols Voice’s Son Blazes Hollywood Trail Writing Hit Sitcom”

Matthew Keith, the son of longtime University of Tennessee play-by-play voice Mike Keith, has risen to a writing role on the CBS sitcom The Neighborhood. He grew up in Middle Tennessee in a household that prized humor, music and storytelling.

Early life and education

Matthew performed in high school plays. He later attended the University of North Carolina. After college, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue entertainment work.

Climbing the industry ladder

He began as a production assistant and progressed through writing-room support roles. His tasks included getting lunches and keeping the writers’ room organized.

He worked as a writers’ PA and then as a writers’ assistant, taking notes in the room. A writers’ strike a couple of years back created opportunities and pauses in his path.

On-set experience and breakthrough

When The Neighborhood needed an extra, Matthew stepped in. He impressed the crew and briefly occupied a dressing room for the day.

His attitude and humor led to more trust from colleagues. That trust culminated in him co-writing an episode for the show’s series finale.

Writing under pressure

Matthew described the challenge of writing jokes that land for established stars. He noted the pressure to make performers and fellow comics laugh, including Cedric the Entertainer.

Family pride and perspective

Parents Mike and Michelle Keith credit a funny, hard-working family culture for his success. They say Matthew combines work ethic with an easygoing sense of humor.

Michelle emphasized how meaningful it is when daily coworkers compliment his character. Both parents expressed pride in his accomplishments.

As the son of the Vols Voice, Matthew has blazed a trail in Hollywood through his writing on a hit sitcom. The episode he co-wrote airs tonight at 8 p.m. on Filmogaz.com.
