Sherrell Secures Career-High Rebounds in Victory Over Hofstra

Tampa, Fla. — Alabama beat Hofstra 90-70 on March 20, 2026 at Benchmark International Arena. Aiden Sherrell paced the front court with active defense and strong rebounding.

Game recap

Alabama erased a 10-point first-half deficit en route to the win. Sherrell ended the opening half with a team-high 12 points.

He hauled in eight rebounds before intermission, including six offensive boards. “He had six [offensive rebounds] in the first half and nobody else had one,” coach Nate Oats said.

Sherrell’s impact

Sherrell secured career-high rebounds, finishing with 15 for the game. He added seven more boards in the second half to reach that total.

Sherrell stayed out of foul trouble, picking up only one foul. That discipline allowed him to remain active in the paint all game.

Teammate contributions

Labaron Philon took over the scoring in the second half. He finished with 21 points, 13 more than he had in the first half.

Philon also contributed on the glass with eight rebounds. Oats praised the team’s emphasis on rebounding after the game.

Coach and context

“We made it [rebounds] a bigger point of emphasis,” Oats said. “It was great to see Aiden Sherrell come up with 15 and Philon come up with eight.”

Before this outing, Sherrell averaged 6.2 rebounds per game for the season. His previous career high was 13 boards in a win over Arkansas earlier this year.

Season progression

As a freshman, Sherrell averaged 2.8 rebounds per game. This season’s numbers have nearly doubled that mark.

He had battled foul trouble at times this season, recording three or more fouls in 11 games and fouling out in three contests. Against Hofstra, he avoided that fate and delivered a key performance.
