Hearn Refutes Signing of Joshua vs. Fury Bout
Eddie Hearn has dismissed recent reports that Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury have signed to fight. The Matchroom promoter said no agreement exists and no contract has been finalised.
Denial and context
Hearn told Filmogaz.com that talk of a sealed deal is incorrect. He described the reports as premature and without foundation.
The claim had been advanced by journalist Gareth A Davies, who said the bout was agreed and would land on Netflix. Hearn pushed back on that narrative, a stance summed up by the phrase Hearn Refutes Signing of Joshua vs. Fury Bout.
Earlier discussions and the Lagos crash
Hearn acknowledged there were extensive conversations about a high-profile fight before Joshua’s car crash. The accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on December 29.
The crash killed two members of Joshua’s inner circle, personal trainer Kevin Ayodele and recovery therapist Sina Ghami. It followed Joshua’s stoppage of Jake Paul in Miami, a sixth-round finish ten days earlier.
Return plans for Joshua
Joshua has resumed training and aims for a summer return. Dillian Whyte has been mentioned as a possible opponent for that comeback.
Hearn indicated that if Joshua’s return goes smoothly, a meeting with Fury could be reconsidered later in the year. For now, formal talks on a Fury fight remain limited.
Fury’s next fight
Tyson Fury is scheduled to fight Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11. The bout will take place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a Netflix card that also features Conor Benn.
Fury had announced retirement more than a year ago but subsequently reversed that decision. He will therefore return to the ring well before any potential clash with Joshua.
