A change in weather is set to impact Uruguay as summer comes to an end. Beginning Thursday and continuing into Friday, a cold front will move into the region, colliding with a mass of warm air. This warm air has resulted in temperatures exceeding 30 °C in various departments across the country.

Mario Bidegain, a noted meteorologist, indicates that the cold front will have a more significant effect north of the Río Negro. In contrast, the metropolitan area is expected to experience milder impacts. Rainfall will signal the end of the recent heat waves.
Forecast for the Coming Days
Bidegain emphasizes that no temperatures near 30 °C are anticipated over the next two weeks. This significant temperature drop will be coupled with lower nighttime temperatures by weekend.
- Cold front arrival: Thursday – Friday
- Warm temperatures above 30 °C in multiple departments
- Significant effects expected north of the Río Negro
- No temperatures near 30 °C expected in the next 15 days
Warnings from MetSul
The weather observatory MetSul has issued warnings for strong winds and severe storms anticipated in the upcoming hours. These conditions arise from an area of low pressure affecting the region.
Risk of Extreme Weather
According to MetSul, there is a risk of extreme rainfall between Uruguay’s border and the western area of Laguna Merín. It is projected that on Saturday alone, up to 200 millimeters of rain could fall. While this situation is expected to be localized, it poses significant risks of disruption in the affected regions.
