Jack Doohan describes a tense Miami weekend

In the latest series of the Netflix documentary Drive to Survive, released on Friday, Doohan said the atmosphere around what became his final race for Alpine was “pretty heavy stuff. ” He said he received “six or seven emails” that included explicit death threats — one saying if he was still in the car by Miami “all my limbs will be cut off. ” Doohan also said he saw three “armed men” and that he “had to call my police escort to come get it under control. ” He did not identify who was responsible or explain how the incident was ultimately resolved.

Alpine exit came after the sixth race of 2025

The incidents in Miami coincided with a turning point in Doohan’s career. He had made his debut for Alpine in the final race of 2024 and was dropped and replaced by Franco Colapinto after Miami, the sixth race of the 2025 season. After Colapinto’s appointment in May, Doohan posted on social media that he and his family had been facing online abuse and suggested fans from Colapinto’s home country of Argentina were responsible. Doohan and Colapinto were the only two drivers last season not to score a point, and Alpine finished last in the constructors’ standings.
