Rail Connections Open for Easter Travel Rush
Passengers planning to travel this Easter across East Anglia have good news. The railway network will largely remain operational during the Bank Holiday weekend. Significant services will be available from London Liverpool Street, alongside the Great Eastern mainline, which connects various destinations.
Rail Connections Available for Easter Travel Rush
Major railway services will continue to function, providing access to key locations:
- Destinations along the Great Eastern mainline include Southend Victoria, Chelmsford, Colchester, Ipswich, and Norwich.
- West Anglia mainline services, including the Stansted Express, will operate to Cambridge and Stansted Airport via Tottenham Hale.
Planning Ahead for Travellers
While most of the network will be operational, some routes will experience planned engineering works. Passengers should consider the following:
- Re-signalling renewal work is ongoing between Cambridge station and Ely.
- Engineering work from Fenchurch Street to Barking will support Thames Water bridge repairs and DLR track renewal at Limehouse.
- General track maintenance is scheduled between Stratford and Meridian Water.
On specific dates—March 28 and 29, and from April 3 to 6—bus replacements will be in effect for certain routes connecting to Cambridge station:
- Cambridge to Ely and Bury St Edmunds.
- Cambridge to Kings Lynn.
- Stansted Airport to Ely.
However, train services will still run between Cambridge and Stansted Airport, as well as between London Liverpool Street and London King’s Cross. Notably, trains will also continue operating between Ely and Norwich, and from Peterborough to Ipswich via Ely.
Encouraging Travel and Tourism
Jamie Burles, representing Greater Anglia and Network Rail, emphasized the importance of this service. He stated, “The majority of the railway across East Anglia remains open for the long Easter bank holiday.” He added that this continuity benefits passengers and local communities, promoting travel and tourism during the festive period.
For optimal travel experiences, it is advisable for passengers to check schedules and plan accordingly given the limited engineering disruptions taking place during this holiday.
