Bill Clinton Deposition Looms After Boebert Defends Hillary Clinton Photo Leak
Rep. Lauren Boebert defended her decision Thursday to share a picture of Hillary Clinton from a closed-door session, a controversy unfolding just days before the bill clinton deposition scheduled for Friday.
Boebert says she had permission to share photo
Boebert said she shared an image taken before the hearing began with podcaster Benny Johnson after receiving permission from the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s staff, and Johnson then posted the image on social media. She told NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo on Thursday that committee members later agreed that no one would take photos during the deposition.
What Boebert said in the interview
In the interview, Boebert deflected blame to Democratic committee members for sharing updates with reporters, saying, "However, there were Democrats and those at the minority party that were releasing information about the hearing throughout the day, topics that were discussed were being leaked to the media. And so there was a lot of things that were coming out of that room, but regardless, it was a photo. "
Bill Clinton Deposition set for Friday
The committee subpoenaed Hillary Clinton’s testimony as part of its probe into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The former secretary of State and former President Clinton had battled for months with the committee about the deposition. The Clintons, who have not been accused of any wrongdoing, spoke with congressional investigators after months of back and forth over their willingness to testify.
Hillary Clinton’s closed-door testimony and Bill Clinton’s past comments
Hillary Clinton repeatedly denied any knowledge about Epstein’s crimes during her six-hour deposition in Chappaqua, N. Y. She told reporters she only knew Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s associate who was convicted on sex trafficking crimes, "casually as an acquaintance. "
Bill Clinton is set to testify before the committee Friday. The former president has previously gone on record about his relationship with Epstein, addressing his inclusion on Epstein’s flight logs in a 2024 memoir. "Traveling on Epstein’s plane was not worth the years of questioning afterward, " he wrote in a 2024 autobiography. "I wish I had never met him. "
