Queer Eye Star Opens Up About Losing Key Film Role to Stanley Tucci

Carson Kressley, the original star of “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” recently opened up about a significant casting opportunity he lost to Stanley Tucci. During a segment on “Today with Jenna & Sheinelle,” Kressley shared his experience auditioning for the role of Nigel in the 2006 film “The Devil Wears Prada.” This revelation highlights a pivotal moment in his career.

Audition for “The Devil Wears Prada”

Kressley recalled that in 2003, when “Queer Eye” was at the height of its popularity, he auditioned for a role in the cult classic directed by David Frankel. He mentioned, “I went in. I must have read for it, and I made it all the way up the totem pole.” Eventually, it came down to him and Tucci for the role.

Challenges Faced

Despite impressive auditions, Kressley faced challenges due to his limited acting experience. The casting team expressed enthusiasm but cited concerns about casting someone without film experience alongside industry veteran Meryl Streep. Kressley humorously recounted their feedback, saying, “They couldn’t have somebody who’s never been in a movie in the scene with Meryl Streep. That might be too big of a gamble.”

In a lighthearted moment, Kressley joked, “Damn you, Stanley Tucci!” reflecting on their competition for the role. Co-host Jenna Bush Hager noted that Tucci would appear on the program the following day, prompting Kressley to quip, “Thanks for ruining my career!” Yet, he appreciated Tucci’s talent, underscoring his admiration for the actor’s work, including his cooking shows.

Recent Developments

Stanley Tucci is set to reprise his role as Nigel in “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” scheduled for release this May. This much-anticipated sequel will bring back key cast members, including Streep and Anne Hathaway, along with newcomers like Simone Ashley and Justin Theroux. The storyline focuses on Miranda Priestly’s struggles in a changing media landscape.

Kressley’s Career Progression

Carson Kressley remains a prominent figure in television. Known as one of the original Fab Five on “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” Kressley later hosted programs such as “How to Look Good Naked” and has been a judge on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” since 2015. His journey in the entertainment industry continues to evolve.
