Train Commuters Endure Another Week of Delays Due to Poor Planning

Brisbane commuters are facing significant delays this week as a result of planned rail closures and poor logistical execution by Queensland Rail. Hundreds have taken to suburban streets, forming long queues while they await bus services intended to replace disrupted train routes.

Extended Rail Closures Affecting Commuters

Scheduled maintenance had already warned Brisbane travelers earlier this month of interruptions that would last until the end of April. Recently, Queensland Rail announced that these closures would extend an additional four days due to an industrial dispute.

Frustration Mounts Over Poor Planning

The situation has attracted considerable frustration among commuters, particularly those travelling from the northside. Many expressed their discontent regarding the insufficient number of buses available to accommodate displaced passengers.

  • At Northgate Station, around 300 passengers were left waiting for buses on Monday morning.
  • One commuter reported waiting over half an hour, stating there were “not enough buses” available at peak times.
  • Comments on social media highlighted the inadequacy of bus frequency, with one bus every 10 minutes deemed insufficient for the volume of commuters.

Frustration was palpable among travelers who had to wait long periods after disembarking from packed trains. A passenger sharing their experience stated, “Got to Bowen Hills at 8:50 AM after nearly two hours, yet still need to catch a train to my destination on the southside.”

Queensland Rail’s Response

A Queensland Rail spokesperson acknowledged the passenger concerns, indicating that feedback was being considered for future improvements. They reassured commuters that they are working with Translink to allocate additional buses where possible.

Details on Disrupted Routes

Bus replacements are scheduled between key stations as follows:

Days Routes Affected
Monday to Wednesday Northgate to Bowen Hills; Varsity Lakes to Boggo Road
Thursday to Sunday Varsity Lakes to Boggo Road

Trains on the Sunshine Coast line will continue to operate between Gympie North and Caboolture, while the Doomben line trains run between Doomben and Eagle Junction. Passengers should anticipate disruptions and plan their journeys accordingly, as these track closures and delays are expected to continue until April 30.
