Aldine ISD Observes International Women’s Day, Urges Community to “Give To Gain”
International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on March 8, emphasizes the pursuit of equity and opportunity for all. This year, Aldine Independent School District (ISD) will observe the day on Friday, March 6, to allow students and staff to reflect and honor the occasion together. This year marks the 115th anniversary of this international celebration.
Theme for 2026: “Give To Gain”
The 2026 theme, “Give To Gain,” encourages generosity and shared responsibility. By providing opportunities, mentorship, and support, the community can enhance access for women and girls.
Honoring Trailblazers
Aldine ISD pays tribute to women who have challenged norms and made strides in various fields. The district celebrates its own female leaders, including teachers, administrators, and students. These individuals exemplify dedication and resilience, fostering strength in the community.
Superintendent Dr. LaTonya M. Goffney stated, “International Women’s Day reminds us that progress doesn’t happen by chance — it happens by choice.” She urged the district to create environments where every girl sees her potential as a leader and changemaker.
Wearing Purple in Support
Purple, the official color of International Women’s Day, symbolizes justice, dignity, and respect. Aldine ISD encourages staff and students to wear purple with blue jeans on March 6, as well as on March 11 and March 25. Participants are invited to share their photos on social media to highlight their commitment to recognizing women’s contributions.
Examples of “Give To Gain” in Aldine
The celebration serves as both a reflection and a call to action, emphasizing continued access for women and girls. In Aldine ISD, “Give To Gain” initiatives may include:
- Mentoring or tutoring female students
- Encouraging involvement in STEM, fine arts, athletics, or leadership roles
- Creating opportunities to build confidence and readiness for careers
- Celebrating the achievements of students and colleagues
- Contributing to scholarships for female graduates through the Aldine Education Foundation
- Sharing professional experiences to inspire girls’ future pathways
Each act of support fosters a ripple effect. When girls recognize their opportunities, they are more inclined to assume leadership roles, enhancing community strength.
A Commitment to the Future
As Aldine ISD marks International Women’s Day, the district honors its history while striving for an equitable future. Every student is valued, every voice is heard, and all learners are encouraged to succeed. Join us in actively supporting and empowering women and girls in our community. Together, let’s give purposefully to build a stronger tomorrow.
