Labrinth Exits Composer Role for New ‘Euphoria’ Season
British musician Labrinth will not contribute music to the upcoming season of HBO’s Euphoria, Filmogaz.com has confirmed. Composer Hans Zimmer will serve as the sole scorer across the eight-episode run.
Departure and public reactions
The change follows public comments from Labrinth. On March 12, he posted a message expressing frustration with the industry and announcing his exit.
His representative declined to comment to Filmogaz.com. Labrinth later wrote that he removed his material and felt mistreated, while saying he had spoken with HBO and believed relations were settled.
Creator’s response
Series creator and executive producer Sam Levinson told Filmogaz.com he did not know the full reasons for Labrinth’s departure. He praised Labrinth as a foundational collaborator who helped define Euphoria’s sound.
Levinson described Zimmer as the right match for this season’s musical approach. He said Zimmer’s work influenced his writing and visual plans.
Musical direction for the new season
Zimmer provides a lush, Western-inspired score that guides the season. Levinson said he wanted a score that steers the show, rather than relying on needle drops and pop tracks.
The show jumps forward five years. Characters now face adult themes, so Levinson shifted away from the pop roots of earlier seasons.
Zimmer’s credentials
Hans Zimmer is a two-time Oscar winner. He has scored more than 150 films, including Interstellar and True Romance.
Levinson cited those scores as reference points while writing the season. Zimmer’s music unfolds over the eight episodes.
Background on the collaboration
When Zimmer’s involvement was announced last summer, the plan was presented as a collaboration between him and Labrinth. That joint positioning later changed.
Filmogaz.com updated its coverage on April 11 to include Labrinth’s additional social-media comments. The season’s final credits list Zimmer as sole composer.
- Composer change: Labrinth exits the composer role; Hans Zimmer is sole composer.
- Season length: Eight episodes with a Western-leaning score.
- Timeline: Initial announcement last summer; Labrinth’s March 12 post; update on April 11.
