Norway: A Record-Breaking Dominant Performance
Norway won 18 gold medals, breaking the record for the highest gold medal tally at a single Winter Games. The previous record of 16 was also set by Norway at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Norway ended the Games with a record 41 total medals, defending its crown as the most-awarded country across both the 2022 Beijing Games and all-time Winter Olympics history.
Norway's cross-country ski star Johannes Høsflot Klæbo was the individual story of the Games, becoming the second-most decorated gold medalist in Olympic history after American Michael Phelps, adding six more golds to bring his career total to 11 — shattering the nearly 50-year record for most gold medals at a single Winter Olympics set by American speed skater Eric Heiden in 1980.
