Dyson Unveils HushJet Mini Cool Portable Fan at Just $99
Dyson has launched an affordable portable fan named the HushJet Mini Cool, priced intriguingly at $99. This marks the lowest cost for a Dyson gadget, making it a significant shift for a brand known for premium household products.
Key Features of the Dyson HushJet Mini Cool
The HushJet Mini Cool will be available starting April 9 at 11 a.m. ET. It weighs just 7.5 ounces and has a diameter of 38 millimeters (1.5 inches), comparable to Dyson’s Slim Supersonic hair dryer. The fan features five airflow speeds, including a “Boost” mode for enhanced cooling.
- Weight: 7.5 ounces
- Dimensions: 1.5 inches in diameter
- Airflow speeds: 5 settings + Boost mode
- Battery life: Up to 6 hours on lowest setting
- Charging time: Approximately 3 hours
- Max airflow speed: 80 feet per second (55 mph)
- Noise levels: 52dBA on low; 72.5dBA on Boost mode
Performance and Design
The fan utilizes a brushless DC motor capable of reaching 65,000 RPM. This performance significantly exceeds that of typical portable fans, which generally reach only 3,000 to 7,500 RPM. Notably, the HushJet is designed for lower noise levels, making it a quieter option when compared to standard models.
Chief Engineer Jake Dyson stated that this device is the result of over a decade of innovation focused on airflow technology, showcasing Dyson’s commitment to merging power with portability.
Competitive Edge: HushJet vs. Shark ChillPill
The launch of the HushJet brings it into direct competition with Shark’s ChillPill, a recently released portable fan. While the ChillPill offers more speed settings and a longer battery life, it weighs 64% more and has lower airflow efficiency. The ChillPill is priced at $149.99.
Availability and Accessories
The HushJet Mini Cool will initially be offered in a unique stone/blush finish, with additional colors—carnelian/sky and ink/cobalt—set to launch in May and June. Each HushJet package includes a charging stand, USB-C cable, travel pouch, and lanyard. Additional accessories will be introduced this summer, including mounts for strollers.
As accessory options expand, the HushJet Mini Cool positions itself not only as a cooling device but as a versatile companion for various settings, particularly as summer approaches.
