Playstation Games: PlayStation Shuts Down Bluepoint Games, Studio Behind Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus

PlayStation has moved to close Bluepoint Games, the studio best known for remaking Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, a decision that will affect roughly 70 employees and reshapes part of the playstation games development landscape.

Playstation Games studio Bluepoint to close next month

PlayStation said the studio will be shuttered next month and that the decision followed "a recent business review. " A PlayStation spokesperson added, "Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community. We thank them for their passion, creativity and craftmanship. " The closure is expected to impact roughly 70 employees when it takes effect.

Studio known for high-profile remakes and support work

Bluepoint was founded in 2006 and was acquired by PlayStation in 2021. The studio built a reputation on remakes and collections: its 2018 remake of Shadow of the Colossus and its 2020 remake of Demon's Souls — the latter released alongside the PS5 — were both widely praised. Bluepoint also contributed to collections such as the God of War Collection, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, and provided support work on titles including PlayStation All-Stars, Flower and Titanfall. Those releases were prominent entries in the playstation games lineup for Sony's platforms.

Live-service God of War project canceled in January 2025

Until January of 2025, Bluepoint had been working on a live-service game set in the God of War universe; that project was canceled before it was ever revealed publicly. After the cancellation, the studio spent last year pitching new projects but did not land a replacement effort before the closure decision.

The immediate consequence is personnel impact: roughly 70 staff members will be affected when the studio closes next month. PlayStation characterized the move as the result of a business review and publicly thanked Bluepoint's team for their work. The closure will proceed next month, when the company has said the studio will be formally shuttered.
