21 MLB Teams Offer In-Market Streaming via MLB.tv

The landscape of Major League Baseball (MLB) streaming options has recently seen significant changes. As announced by the league, over two-thirds of MLB teams are now offering fans a direct-to-consumer streaming subscription option through MLB.tv, specifically for local markets. This initiative aims to ease access to live games, although it has generated some confusion regarding its different streaming packages.

21 MLB Teams and In-Market Streaming

A total of 21 MLB teams are participating in this new in-market streaming arrangement via MLB.tv. This offering is distinct from the league’s out-of-market package, although both can be combined in certain cases.

Teams with In-Market Streaming Packages

The following teams have joined the league’s media arm, moving away from traditional regional sports networks:

  • Arizona Diamondbacks
  • Cincinnati Reds
  • Cleveland Guardians
  • Colorado Rockies
  • Detroit Tigers
  • Kansas City Royals
  • Miami Marlins
  • Milwaukee Brewers
  • Minnesota Twins
  • St. Louis Cardinals
  • San Diego Padres
  • Seattle Mariners
  • Tampa Bay Rays
  • Washington Nationals

Fans can subscribe to this in-market package for $19.99 per month or opt for a seasonal subscription priced at $99.99.

Bundling Options

For fans interested in a broader viewing experience, the in-market stream can be bundled with the out-of-market MLB.tv subscription. This package, which includes games from all other teams, is available for $199.99 per season.

Teams Using Regional Sports Networks

Seven additional teams are partnering with regional sports networks to offer their in-market streaming rights:

  • Oakland Athletics
  • Baltimore Orioles
  • Los Angeles Angels
  • Los Angeles Dodgers
  • New York Mets
  • Philadelphia Phillies
  • San Francisco Giants

The pricing for in-market streaming options for these teams will vary, as determined by their respective regional sports networks. Notably, these teams do not offer an option to bundle with the out-of-market MLB.tv service.

Remaining MLB Clubs

Of the remaining nine MLB teams, in-market streaming will not be accessible through MLB.tv. Instead, fans of these teams should consult their specific team websites for alternative streaming options.

Out-of-Market Streaming Changes

In addition to the local streaming announcements, the league has unveiled plans for its out-of-market package in collaboration with ESPN. Current MLB.tv subscribers with auto-renewal will continue to receive their package without disruption, allowing access via both the MLB App and the ESPN App.

New Subscriber Requirements

New customers looking to secure MLB.tv will need to purchase the service through the ESPN App for $149.99 per season. Additionally, a subscription to ESPN Unlimited, priced at $30 per month, is required. A free one-month trial is available at the time of MLB.tv purchase, but customers must cancel the ESPN Unlimited subscription to avoid ongoing charges.

For existing ESPN Unlimited customers, a slight discount brings the MLB.tv price down to $134.99 per season.

Looking Ahead

The current streaming setup may seem overly complicated. However, MLB fans can expect improvements as the league works towards streamlining local media rights over the coming years, targeting a unified platform by 2028.
