La Rochelle Group Fights to Expand Inclusive Autonomous Housing Options

The La Rochelle Group is actively working to enhance inclusive autonomous housing options in their region. Recognizing that the current offerings are insufficient, they aim to effect positive change. Key members like Sylvie Loisy, Xavier Allanic, and Ingrid Avot are at the forefront of this initiative.

Formation of Toi(t) et Nous

The trio established the association Toi(t) et nous in July 2024. Sylvie Loisy has played a pivotal role, engaging with over 300 individuals to understand the local landscape. Allanic and Avot contribute their expertise in project management and financing, respectively, making their collaboration essential.

Current Projects

The association is currently pursuing two significant projects. The first involves constructing 15 to 20 units for intergenerational living, part of a larger development by a social housing provider. The initiative aims to create a social mix by including young professionals and students alongside adults with disabilities.

  • Project 1: 15-20 intergenerational homes.
  • Project 2: Acquisition of a house for adults with disabilities.

Future Aspirations

A second ambitious project includes acquiring a property to house young adults with disabilities. This initiative seeks to replicate successful models like the one implemented by Les Moulinettes in Surgères. A real estate agent is monitoring the market to find a suitable location that meets the needs of interested families.

Funding Challenges

Funding remains a critical challenge for these initiatives. The financial model is designed to include contributions from families, sourcing grants, and securing bank loans. Specifically, families are expected to provide one-third of the funding, while another third will come from grants and partnerships.

Goals for the Future

If successful, this model can be replicated, allowing more projects to develop in response to community needs. The overarching goal is to ensure that individuals like Wilfried can live independently and enjoy a quality life.

The La Rochelle Group’s dedication to expanding inclusive autonomous housing options is a significant step toward fostering a more supportive community for all individuals, especially those with disabilities.
