Jill Biden’s Ex-Husband Charged in Current Wife’s Murder
William Stevenson, the ex-husband of former First Lady Jill Biden, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of his current wife, Linda Stevenson. Authorities charged him with first-degree murder following a grand jury indictment in Delaware.
Arrest and Charges
Stevenson, 77, was taken into custody on Monday after the indictment was filed. He is currently detained at the Howard Young Correctional Institution, unable to post his $500,000 cash bail.
Details surrounding Linda Stevenson’s death remain limited. Police reported responding to a domestic dispute at their Wilmington residence on December 28. Officers discovered Linda unresponsive in the living room. Despite their attempts at lifesaving measures, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation and Autopsy
The Delaware Division of Forensic Science has conducted an autopsy on Linda’s body, but the cause of death has yet to be released. The grand jury indictment stemmed from an extensive, weeks-long investigation conducted by New Castle County police.
Background of William and Jill Stevenson
Jill Biden and William Stevenson were married in February 1970 when she was just 18 years old. Stevenson was 23 at that time, and Jill was a student at the University of Delaware. During their marriage, Stevenson founded The Stone Balloon Club in Newark, a popular venue that hosted famous musicians like Bruce Springsteen and Dave Matthews.
The couple’s marriage lasted five years and culminated in a divorce finalized in May 1975. Shortly thereafter, Jill met Joe Biden, a Delaware senator, paving the way for her future marriage to him.
Response from Legal Representatives
As of now, it is unclear whether William Stevenson has secured legal representation. A request for comment from representatives of Joe and Jill Biden has not yet been addressed.
