Perth Man Allegedly Supported Bondi Attackers, Faces Additional Firearms Charges
A man from Perth, Martin Thomas Glynn, is facing multiple firearms charges after allegedly expressing support for the attackers involved in the Bondi Beach incident. This attack, which occurred during a Hanukkah event, resulted in the tragic loss of 15 lives. Glynn, 39, was arrested in December at his residence in Yangebup.
Background of the Charges
Glynn’s arrest by Western Australia Police was part of Operation Dalewood, initiated in response to the Bondi terror attack. During the search of his home, authorities discovered:
- Six rifles
- Thousands of rounds of ammunition
- Flags associated with Hezbollah and Hamas
He was charged with several offenses, including possession of a prohibited weapon and failing to properly store firearms. Recently, he received two additional charges: possession of firearm technology and a second count for improper storage.
Social Media Activity and Evidence
Glynn’s social media postings attracted attention from law enforcement. Within hours of the Bondi attack, he allegedly posted on Instagram expressing his support for the shooters. In one post, he stated:
“I just want to say that I, Martin Glynn, 100 percent support the New South Wales shooters.”
During a previous court session, prosecutors noted that a police raid uncovered notebooks belonging to Glynn. These displayed antisemitic statements and references to historical atrocities, including the Holocaust. His mobile phone also contained alarming content related to explosives.
Court Appearance and Future Proceedings
On his latest appearance via video link from Hakea Prison, Magistrate Andrew Matthews outlined the new charges against Glynn. His legal representation indicated plans to file a bail application during the next scheduled court date on February 27.
WA Premier Roger Cook condemned the Bondi attack as “cowardly and heinous,” following discussions with leaders of the Jewish community. Glynn’s case continues to draw significant attention, highlighting ongoing issues surrounding hate speech and violence.
