Nintendo Responds to Switch Online Data Breach
Nintendo has recently addressed a data breach concerning potential upcoming titles for its Switch Online service. The rumors suggested that Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Pikmin 2 were set to join the GameCube collection, but Nintendo has denied these claims.
Nintendo Responds to Switch Online Data Breach
The speculation originated from a promotional image posted by Walmart on January 27, 2025. This image included several classic titles available on Nintendo Switch Online, such as:
- Donkey Kong Country
- Super Mario 64
- The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
- Tetris
- Pikmin 2
- Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Shortly after the leak, a Nintendo spokesperson clarified to IGN that the promotional image was misleading. Although it was sourced from Nintendo, it incorrectly listed games not scheduled for release on the service. Following this clarification, the image was removed from Walmart’s website.
Current GameCube Offerings on Switch Online
The Nintendo Switch Online service launched in June 2025 with only three GameCube titles: F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and Soulcalibur 2. In the following months, Nintendo expanded its GameCube library, adding:
- Luigi’s Mansion
- Super Mario Strikers
- Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
While the absence of Metroid Prime 2 and Pikmin 2 in the near future might disappoint some fans, it opens up the possibility for a remake of Metroid Prime 2, much like the recently released Metroid Prime Remastered.
Future Releases for Nintendo Switch Online
Nintendo has also announced plans to include titles such as:
- Pokemon Colosseum
- Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness
- Super Mario Sunshine
These classic games are anticipated for future addition to the GameCube collection.
Fans eagerly await more information about upcoming titles in the next Nintendo Direct, likely taking place in early February. While exact details remain unconfirmed, industry insider Nate The Hate has suggested that an event could occur on February 5, 2025.
