Director Marcus Rhodes of the Horry County Sheriff’s Office announced the cancellation due to inclement weather. The storm is expected to hit the area by 10:00 AM, bringing significant challenges for the event.

Shift to Virtual Fundraising

Before this decision, participants had prepared to brave the cold waters at Sands Ocean Club on Saturday. With the cancellation now in effect, organizers will pivot to virtual events to ensure the fundraising continues.

Rhodes conveyed his disappointment but noted that, “We’re going to still have a great day, we’re just going to have to do it differently.” He assured participants that they would receive updates on how to turn in donations and collect their event swag.

Weather Forecast Details

The weather forecast added to the urgency of the cancellation, as the Myrtle Beach area is projected to receive up to a foot of snow. Additionally, wind chills are expected to drop to single digits, creating hazardous conditions.
