Cockermouth Roads Closed for North Lakes Half Marathon

Cumberland Council has announced temporary road closures due to the North Lakes Half Marathon. This event is scheduled for February 8, with restrictions in place from 7 AM to 1 PM.

Cockermouth Roads Affected

Several key roads in Cockermouth will be impacted:

  • Market Street (back lane): Closed for its entire length, including Bitterbeck Car Park.
  • Market Street: Access will be restricted from its junction with Market Place, extending approximately 30 meters southwest.
  • Market Place: Road closure will begin at the junction with Kirkgate and extend around 100 meters northwest.
  • Kirkgate: This road will be closed from its junction with Market Place/St Helen’s Street, extending about 250 meters south.
  • St Helen’s Street: Access will be restricted from its junction with Kirkgate, extending roughly 940 meters northeast.

Traffic Management

Traffic marshals will be on-site to manage access for residents affected by these closures. Alternative routes will be clearly marked for vehicles using surrounding roads and streets.

Pedestrian Access

During the road closures, a thoroughfare for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain open at all times.

Duration of Restrictions

The road closures are anticipated to last only until 1 PM on February 8 or until normal traffic flow can be restored, whichever comes first.
