Sandown Grade 1 Event Cleared for Saturday; More Rain Expected at Leopardstown

Officials have confirmed that the Sandown Grade 1 event is set to proceed this Saturday, despite inclement weather conditions. However, heavy rainfall is anticipated, raising the possibility of some adjustments to the schedule.

Inspection and Contingency Plans

The Dublin Racing Festival (DRF) at Leopardstown will hold an inspection at 8 AM on Saturday. This precaution comes in light of the course’s recent challenges with rain. If conditions remain unsuitable for racing, the DRF will consider utilizing Monday as a backup day.

Forecast predicts an additional 10-20 mm of rain on Saturday.

Clerk of the course Paddy Graffin noted that parts of the hurdle track were previously unfit for racing. However, a viable line adjacent to the chase track was discovered. This line has not been utilized before but is currently deemed suitable for racing.

According to Met Éireann, Friday night will be cloudy with heavy rain showers. The conditions could lead to localized flooding, given the already saturated grounds. By Saturday, the expectation is for the weather to improve slightly, transitioning to drier conditions in the afternoon.

Inspection Outcomes at Sandown

Sandown will conduct a 7:30 AM inspection for the Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase. The track has experienced similar heavy rainfall, with conditions currently rated as soft, heavy in places.

Wetherby Meeting Updates

Wetherby is also preparing for an 8 AM inspection on Saturday. The track received 10 mm of rain by mid-afternoon on Friday, with heavy, soft conditions registered.
