Severe weather conditions are anticipated this weekend as a powerful nor’easter approaches the Cape and Islands. Meteorologists have warned that this bomb cyclone could bring significant snowfall and strong winds, affecting travel and safety across the region.

- South Shore: Near 6 inches of snow

The anticipated storm surge could range from 1.5 to 2.5 feet, with wave action further exacerbating the situation. The main risks for flooding include:
- Widespread minor to moderate coastal flooding during high tides on Sunday morning and evening
- Critical timing of peak surge with high tide
- Potential for beach erosion due to waves exceeding 20 feet offshore

This storm is classified under the phenomenon of “bombogenesis,” which occurs when a storm rapidly intensifies. Kines pointed out that such instances are common during nor’easters, explaining that a clash of cold and milder air over the ocean typically signals a strengthening storm system.
