Gills Secure Key Signing of Ronan Hale
The Gills are thrilled to announce the signing of Northern Ireland international Ronan Hale on a two-and-a-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee. Hale, a 27-year-old striker, joins from Scottish Championship side Ross County, making him the second signing of the January transfer window.
Ronan Hale’s Career Highlights
Hale began his professional journey with Crusaders in Northern Ireland. His impressive performance earned him a transfer to Birmingham City, where he scored 28 goals in just 23 games for the U21 team. He continued to demonstrate his scoring ability with the U23 squad, netting four times in 16 appearances.
Loan Spells and International Debut
In January 2018, Hale was loaned to Derry City and made his senior debut shortly after. He showcased his talent by scoring a hat-trick against Limerick during a 5-0 victory. His loan was later extended, allowing him to participate in the Europa League against Dinamo Minsk.
In January 2019, Hale’s contract with Birmingham was terminated. He returned to Crusaders before signing an 18-month deal with St. Patrick’s Athletic. Following a year there, Hale moved to Larne, competing in the Northern Ireland Premier League.
European Achievements
- Scored during Larne’s first European campaign in the Europa Conference League (2021-22).
- Joined Cliftonville in May 2022 and scored on his debut in the Conference League.
- Played a pivotal role in Cliftonville winning the Irish Cup in May 2024, netting twice in extra-time.
Afterward, Hale signed a three-year deal with Ross County, making 68 appearances and scoring 30 goals across all competitions.
International Representation
Hale made his full international debut for Northern Ireland in June 2025, starting in a 1-0 victory over Iceland. Prior to that, he played for the U19 and U21 teams, totaling five goals in 12 matches.
Statement from Ronan Hale
Upon joining the Gills, Hale expressed enthusiasm about the move: “It’s the place I want to be to play my football, and I can’t wait to get started. It’s a new challenge, and I am ready to go.”
This transfer is contingent upon EFL ratification and international clearance. The Gills look forward to Hale’s contributions as they strengthen their squad during the January transfer window.
