Windows 11 Nears Rollout for Resuming Android Apps on PC

Microsoft is advancing Windows 11’s capabilities by enhancing its ability to resume Android apps on PCs. This enhancement is part of the latest Release Preview update.

Key Features of the Latest Update

The new features allow users to seamlessly continue their activities across devices. This includes continuing Spotify playback, Edge browsing sessions, and productivity tasks in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Cross-Device Resume Functionality

  • Spotify: Users can resume music playback on their PC directly from their Android device.
  • Edge Browsing: Users can continue their browsing sessions across devices.
  • Office Integration: Work can be picked up in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint from where it was left off.

This feature closely resembles Apple’s Handoff, which allows continuity of tasks between various Apple devices. Microsoft initially revealed its cross-device resume capabilities during the Build developer conference the previous year.

Previous Features and Improvements

Windows 10 had its own handoff feature named Project Rome, though it struggled with widespread developer adoption. The newly added features in the Release Preview ring signal that this updated support is approaching a full rollout.

Additional Enhancements in the Update

  • MIDI 2.0 Support: Enhanced compatibility for music production.
  • Voice Typing: Improvements for better transcription accuracy.
  • Fingerprint Sensor: New support for Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security (ESS).

For users with a Copilot Plus PC, this update also introduces new language support. The Settings Agent now accommodates languages such as German, Portuguese, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Hindi, Italian, and Simplified Chinese.

These improvements reflect Microsoft’s commitment to making Windows 11 a more versatile operating system for users who switch between Android devices and PCs. As the rollout progresses, users can look forward to a smoother cross-device experience in their daily tasks.
