Women’s Golf Tees Off Spring Season with New Schedule Release

The Wheeling University Women’s Golf team is gearing up for the Spring 2026 season with optimism and a fresh schedule. Led by Head Coach Thadd Obecny, the team aims to build on the solid foundation established during the Fall 2025 season, which showcased strong veteran leadership.

New Schedule for Spring 2026

The Cardinals have announced a competitive schedule featuring four tournaments. This spring season follows a productive fall, where participant numbers increased from three to five full-time players.

Fall 2025 Recap

During the previous fall, the Cardinals participated in five tournaments. Highlights included:

  • Finished 6th at the Wheeling Invitational with a total score of 855.
  • Placed 18th at The University of Charleston with an overall score of 905.
  • Achieved a tournament victory at the Pipesteam Classic.
  • Ended their campaign at the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Championships, placing 6th with a score of 1265 and earning a spot on the All-Tournament team.

Spring Tournament Schedule

The 2026 spring season kicks off on March 8th with the following tournaments:

  • Ohio Dominican Invitational: March 8th – 10th in Columbus, Ohio. This marks the team’s first outing of the spring.
  • University of Findlay Open: March 16th – 17th, also in Ohio, allowing the team to gauge their standing against regional competitors.
  • North Greenville University Open: March 23rd – 24th in Greenville, South Carolina. The team will face a diverse field from across the country.
  • MEC Spring Classic: April 12th – 13th, serving as the spring season finale and where All-MEC teams will be announced.

The Wheeling University Women’s Golf team is excited to begin their spring season. With talented players and a rigorous schedule, they look to establish their presence in women’s golf this spring. The first competition takes place at the Ohio Dominican Open on March 8th.
